I just had to post about this as soon as I saw the twitter announcement:
This is a huge and fantastic step forward. Astellas has been proactive with patients in the past but this makes their activity very public, a step may companies are wary of doing. Usually the reasons for not engaging with patients – with PEOPLE – are around regulations governing pharma as well as HIPAA concerns. I have always said we can put the patient first and still adhere to all regulations – as Astellas has done.
In the “About” section Astellas states:
Changing Tomorrow Together, an online resource managed by the Astellas Stakeholder Engagement team, was created to stimulate dialogue and create opportunities to share information, inspiration and ideas across the advocacy community. This forum aims to foster patient-focused collaboration, share best practices and provide resources aimed at improving patient care.
About Stakeholder Engagement
Stakeholder Engagement is a function within Corporate Affairs at Astellas that focuses on creating, building and maintaining third-party relationships. We serve as a conduit between Astellas and external stakeholders to help improve patient outcomes, improve access issues and address patients’ unmet needs head on.
I hope other companies in life sciences will take note of Astellas’ bold move. To check out the website go to https://www.changetogether.com
Good luck with this effort, Astellas, be the leader!
